Article summary

Overview

To process tissues other than blood, such as muscle, liver, skin, fish fin clips, etc., we require 10-15mg of tissue submerged in 80% ethanol.

For help selecting plasticware to pack your samples, please read the instructions on Plasticware for animal tissues. Consistent sample size will help us produce higher quality data for you, and be aware that additional charges may be necessary if we need to manually sub-sample any excessively large samples.

Some tissues are more challenging and require additional purification post-extraction to remove nucleases or inhibitors. If this applies, and to save time, please consent to this additional post-extraction gDNA clean up, using the option on the order form.

If you are submitting very small or nearly invisible samples such as tiny insects, nematodes, and so on, it is critical that you alert us. Please place BIG text notes in your order, on the samples, and in the ‘Comments’ section of the Sample Tracking File.

If samples are of hard tissue - like shell or exoskeleton - please contact us before shipping, for clarification and possible alternative submission requirements.

Important
You must tell us if your sample has been stored in any solutions other than ethanol, because if it has it will require special treatment before DNA extraction.  You can provide full details of this when ordering online, both in your order and in the ‘Comments’ column of the Sample Tracking File.
