Plasticware for DNA, plants and seeds

Overview

The quality of your samples and our ability to process them efficiently with our automated plate processing equipment are greatly improved when you use high-quality plasticware. The suitability of the plasticware depends on your sample type.

What plasticware should you use?

• Plasticware for DNA, blood and tiny samples: Use a PCR plate
• Plasticware for Plants and Animal samples:  Use a microtube system 
• Plasticware for whole seeds/grains: Use a deepwell plate
• Plasticware for pulverised seeds: Use microtube system

Please see the specific plasticware recommendation based on your sample type. 

Plasticware for DNA

Please package your DNA samples into one of the PCR plates listed in the table below. If the correct plasticware is not available, we can courier it to you via DHL, adding the cost of shipping to your invoice.

We prefer that you seal the plate with a heat seal, although one of the seals designated in the table below is acceptable.

Plasticware for whole seeds/grains

For whole seeds and grains we recommend using deep well plates with seals. 

When packaging deep well plates for shipment, please: 

1. Ensure the plates are properly sealed and labelled matching the Sample Tracking File (e.g., plate 1, plate 2, etc..).
2. Secure the seal by putting a piece of cardboard on top of it and secure it to the plate with rubber bands 
3. Place tightly packed in an appropriately sized box with bubble wrap or Styrofoam. Please read How to pack and ship samples for more information and include any applicable Documentation & permits when you ship to us 

Plasticware for plant tissue

We recommend you use either: 

• ‘MicroTube Rack System™, 1.1mL Single Tubes in Racks’ (National Scientific Supply Company catalogue numbers TN0946-01R for racks and TN0946-01B) 
• Sealed with the ‘Pierceable TPE Micronic capband-8 cluster ’ (capmat format - Micronic catalogue number MP53024) or equivalent

Or:

• 1.1mL Microtube System, Racked (Thermo-Fisher catalogue number 15082, or -1.40mL non-coded push cap tubes, U-bottom in Micronic 96-4 rack with low cover (barcoded A1-H1 side) (Micronic catalogue number MP32136) 
• Sealed with Thermo-Fisher 1.2mL Microtiter tub 8-cap plug strip (catalogue number QSP847), or -Micronic TPE Capband-8 (catalogue number MP53018)

Plasticware for pulverised seeds

We recommend you use either:
