Plasticware for submitting samples to DArT

Overview

The quality of your samples and our ability to process them efficiently with our automated plate processing equipment depend on the use of high-quality plasticware. The suitability of the plasticware depends on your sample type.

We have listed below the type of plasticware that we require for each type of sample. If incorrect plates are used and we need to transfer samples to the correct plasticware, we may need to make an additional charge for this service, and double handling may affect the quality of your samples.

What plasticware should you use?

• Plasticware for DNA: Use a PCR plate
• Plasticware for blood and tiny samples: Use a PCR plate
• Plasticware for animal samples:  Use a microtube system, 96 tubes, 1.1ml racked
• Plasticware for plant samples:  Use a microtube system, 96 tubes, 1.1ml racked
• Plasticware for pulverised seeds: Use a microtube system, 96 tubes, 1.1ml racked
• Plasticware for whole seeds/grains: Use a deepwell plate 96

Plasticware for DNA

Please package your DNA samples into one of the fully skirted PCR plates with translucent wells listed in the table below. If the correct plasticware is not available, we can courier it to you via DHL, adding the cost of shipping to your invoice.

We prefer that you seal the plate with a high quality heat seal (suitable for transportation), although one of the seals designated in the table below is acceptable. Please do not use adhesive seals at all due to the possible risk of cross-contamination of samples during transportation.

Note that the plates and seals come in a variety of colours. It doesn’t matter what colour plate or seal you use.

Plasticware for plant tissue

We recommend you use: 

• ‘MicroTube Rack System™, 1.1mL Single Tubes in Racks’ (Available from Interlab - catalogue numbers TN0946-01R for tubes in racks). If you already have racks, you can buy bulk tubes without racks (Catalogue number TN0946-01B), however we require that all tubes sent to us are in racks.
  
• Sealed with the ‘Pierceable TPE Micronic capband-8 cluster’ (capmat format - Micronic catalogue number MP53024) or equivalent. The Capmat-96 and the Capband-8 come in a variety of colours, in a mat format with tear-off lines to obtain cap strips.
  

Plasticware for pulverised seeds

We recommend you use: 

• ‘MicroTube Rack System™, 1.1mL Single Tubes in Racks’ (Available from Interlab - catalogue numbers TN0946-01R for tubes in racks) If you already have racks, you can buy bulk tubes without racks (catalogue number TN0946-01B), however we require that all tubes sent to us are in racks.

Plasticware for whole seeds/grains

• Chemagic Deep Well Plate, 96 well, 2mL (Perkin Elmer) – Cat# CMG-555. This is a special product order. Contact the Sales Representative in Australia, Revvity: https://www.revvity.com/au-en
• Sealed with Silicon Sealing Mat for 2ml 96 Square Well Deep Well Plates (Axygen) – Cat# AM-2ML-SQ

When packaging deep well plates for shipment, please: 

1. Ensure the plates are properly sealed and labelled matching the Sample Tracking File (e.g., plate 1, plate 2, etc..).
2. Secure the seal by putting a piece of cardboard on top of it and secure it to the plate with rubber bands 
3. Place tightly packed in an appropriately sized box with bubble wrap or Styrofoam. Please read How to pack and ship samples for more information and include any applicable Documentation & permits when you ship to us
